See Our New Home!

Dear friends,

It is an exciting time at L’Arche North Carolina! We closed on our first L’Arche NC house on Thursday, July 27, 2023. We are incredibly excited about the beautiful home and the lives that will be impacted in the future by this milestone moment. This opportunity to create a wonderful home for people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities would not have been possible without your help. Your donations, prayers, and hopes have brought this dream to life. Yes, it’s true; our new home will be in Durham’s Emorywood Estates neighborhood.

We are grateful to our Housing Task Force for finding this house. After months of looking in Wake County and running into buffer zone challenges, we expanded our search. This amazing home is located in South Durham and is perfect for a L’Arche community home. It’s in a quiet and lovely neighborhood. The house has six bedrooms and three bathrooms. It’s located only .2 miles from the American Tobacco Trail. The kitchen is stunning, with a large island to gather around as meals are made, and friendships are formed. The backyard will be perfect for L’Arche celebrations. The storage space in various closets and the two-car garage is abundant. It is less than 2 miles from a grocery store and just 10 minutes away from Southpoint Mall. We LOVE this house! It will connect our friends in Durham and Chapel Hill to our programs in Raleigh.

This house will become a L’Arche home because many people followed the L’Arche NC journey and supported our mission. We greatly appreciate the help and support from our realtor, Thomas Kortus from Nest Realty. Not only did he find us this gorgeous house, he also donated his commission to L’Arche NC. With the generous support from donors who gave anywhere from $1 to $200,000, we were able to put a large down payment on this house. You have all have helped us purchase the first L’Arche NC House! We also owe a BIG thank you to our bank, TowneBank, in Raleigh, who provided a loan to finalize our plans to purchase this property.

Purchasing the house is the first step of many to make this a L’Arche home. We are actively fundraising toward our Sailing Home campaign ($1.5 million dollars July 1, 2025).
